film project development:
Der Plural von Wut
Mira Klug ist fine artist and filmmaker, Karo Preuschl is artist, performer, writer and musician. She already has participated in the ´23 sound residency. Together they develop an experimental short film, to be shot on 16mm, on the topic of female anger, starting from the pathologizing patriarchal construction of „hysteria“. During their stay at clanz, they do research in the documentation center of the ex-mental hospital San Giovanni in Trieste, where Franco Basaglia de/institutionalized the democratic/psychiatry in the 1970ties, as well as in the archives of San Clemente and San Servolo in Venice.
This research and project development is a cooperation with curator Francesca Lazzarini, who herself is regularly realizing exhibition projects in the context of the Department of Mental Health in Trieste.
-SYNOPSIS
The Plural of Anger
Using image archives collected in modernity’s archives of women’s psychiatric wards, the film examines the social inscriptions and formatting of patriarchal violence against women* and links this with forms of self-empowerment. The film examines supposedly scientific diagnoses from the late 19th and early 20th centuries and their effects, which have lasted into the present day and are inscribed in the body and pop culture.
